Yilport started using cranes to move containers in Puerto Bolívar

Banana cargo moved with new equipment

Puerto Bolívar began to use part of the new crane equipment that arrived in the country weeks ago as part of its modernization plan.

A shipment from the shipping company MSC served to test the operation of the gantry cranes that were installed on the dock of the Yilport concession terminal.

The Port Authority of Puerto Bolívar (APPB), the entity that controls the Yilport concession, indicated that the first container that was mobilized was from the Agricultural Association of El Oro. This union moves bananas mainly to the Russian market.

Yilport, a Turkish concessionaire, brought to the country two new gantry cranes for loading and unloading containers and six RTG cranes for the yards. These cranes are part of a third set of equipment that Yilport brings, although the previous ones had different characteristics.

"The equipment will increase the operational efficiency of our terminal, improving productivity and competitiveness times, allowing us to promote the reception of cargo on a large scale," said the APPB.

Yilport's investment plan has delays because the land was only handed over by the State last year.

The concessionaire has justified that it could not start works due to the lack of land.

Weeks ago, banana unions urged the authorities to control the investment plan more, fix the infrastructure and improve cargo reception times.
