On April 12, more than 70% of the population would be immunized.
The United Kingdom became one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus in 2020, but it seems that in this April 2021 it could achieve a herd immunity. This is indicated by a new forecast from University College London (UCL).
After reviewing facts and figures, a team of UCL researchers came to the conclusion that the protection against the coronavirus of the population will be of the73.4% from Monday, April 12.
This, due to the advancement of massive inoculation and by people who have developed antibodies against the virus after having overcome the disease.
Herd or group immunity occurs when a sufficient number of individuals are protected against infection and act as a firewall by preventing the virus from reaching those who are not protected.
In addition, it is said that 1 in 10 people have some type of immunity acquired after passing other types of coronavirus.
The British newspaperThe Telegraphpicked up the work because it marks a higher immunization figure than an Imperial College model predicted, which indicates that there is evidence that the immunization program "breaks" the link between COVID-19 cases and deaths.
Previously, the kingdom's Office for National Statistics had said that on March 14 in England around 54% of the population had antibodies and that in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales the figure was only slightly lower.
Since that date, more than 7.1 million Britons have received at least one dose of Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca-Oxford and to a lesser extent Moderna.
Meanwhile, the British Government tried this Thursday to reassure the population about the AstraZeneca vaccine and reiterated that "the benefits outweigh the risks", after regulators did not recommend it for those under 30 years of age due to the possible link between prepared and some rare thrombi in young, according to EFE.
Health Minister Matt Hancock spearheaded this campaign aimed at preventing a decline in the acceptance of the immunization plan among citizens of the United Kingdom, where more than half of the adult population has already been vaccinated.
According to the latest figures, more than 31 million people have received the first dose of a vaccine and more than five million the second. Yesterday 2,763 new infections and another 45 deaths were registered, compared to the peak of more than a thousand daily deaths at the beginning of the year.
