The Eiffel Tower will reopen to the public on July 16 after 8 months of closure due to the pandemic

In 2020, COVID-19 caused the company that manages the tower a loss of $ 63 million.

With no public since the end of October 2020, the iconic Eiffel Tower will reopen to the public on July 16, when it has completed 8 months of closure, reports the company that manages and operates the monument.

In a statement, the management company SETE explains that they are preparing a health protocol "that allows the public to enjoy a comfortable visit," without specifying which one.

The company details that the sale of tickets to access one of the most famous monuments in the world will begin on June 1.

The Eiffel Tower has been closed to the public since last October 29, when restriction measures were decreed by the covid to combat the second wave of the disease.

Built for the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1889 and highly criticized at the time, the 324-meter-high iron construction designed by Gustave Eiffel receives 7 million visitors a year, 75% of them foreigners.

For the summer (boreal) the reception capacity will be limited to 10,000 visitors a day, that is, the same level as in the summer of 2020. Before the crisis, the famous monument received 25,000 people, indicated the Sete (Society of exploitation of the Eiffel Tower).

Due to the long months of closure, the Sete expects a deficit of about 70 million euros in 2021 (about $ 85 million), so the company will need a recapitalization.

All the floors of the Eiffel Tower will be open again, except for some areas under construction, in particular those for the repainting of the monument.AFP.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most visited monuments in the world, and in 2020 the pandemic already caused its concessionaire a loss of 52 million euros (63 million dollars).
