In the islands the main economic activity is tourism, which until the end of 2020 registered a 73%reduction.
A group of eight Galapagos cruise operators contributed, since the beginning of the pandemic, with more than$ 500.000In food donations for vulnerable sectors, PCR tests, rapid COVID-19 tests, oxygen tanks, the first insulation cameras, protection elements, respirators, among other medical supplies and laboratory supplies necessary for citizens' care.
In addition, they were part of the coordination of humanitarian flights, from the continent, to return to the galapagueños to the islands.
The group of operators is made up ofSilversea, Celebrity Cruises, Metropolitan Touring, Quasar, Kleintours, Ecoventura, Rolf Wittmer y Lindblad Expeditions. These companies worked with the authorities of the municipalities, Governing Council, Provincial COE and the Red Cross, with the purpose of reaching the largest number of people among residents, medical and security personnel during the past 2020.
In Galapagos, the main economic activity is tourism, since around 80% of the population depends on this item, which until the end of 2020 recorded a 73% reduction of tourists versus 2019.
