Record $ 60 million in smuggling apprehensions achieved by Senae in 2020

The Vice President of the Republic, María Alejandra Muñoz, presided over the last Senae Steering Committee, in which results were evaluated since 2018

A historical record of $ 60 million in apprehensions in smuggling goods by the National Customs Service of Ecuador was recorded in 2020.The figure represents twice the average of the last ten years. Additionally,A shorter time has been recorded in the process of disadvantage of goods by lowering the total times from six to three days. Regarding the collection, it went from 3% of GDP in 2017 to 3.8% of GDP in 2020.

These are the main outstanding achievements during the last Steering Committee of the National Customs Service of Ecuador (SENAE), held last April 30,with the objective of reviewing the management implemented since 2018. This committee was chaired by the vice president of the Republic, María Alejandra Muñoz, by virtue of the delegation that was made through Decree 1106, related to the facilitation of international trade and strengthening the SENAE.

The vice presidentMaría Alejandra Muñoz, before occupying her current position she was the first woman to assume the direction of the Senae.And during its management it was implementedThe Office of Ethical Strengthening and Fight against Corruption (OFIELC)and a women's promotion policy was defined in high executive positions, going from27% to 100% of women in the General Management Committee and from 26% to 58% in the participation of women in middle managers.

In accordance withSenae,The various achievements have been part of the application of a methodology based on the strengthening of customs intelligence and risk profile,"Open less and know more", and by the hand of a mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to increase the institutional maturity rates of Senae.

Now, theSenae terminates the implementation of the Mission of the International Monetary Fund,which reflects the application of the trade facilitation agreement, to which Ecuador with results had adhered to October 2018.
