Tungurahua Production Chambers undertake a campaign to support the Ambateño hospital that treats COVID-19 cases

Given the high occupancy of the intensive care units (ICU) intended for COVID-19 patients at the Ambato Regional Teaching Hospitals (HRDA) and the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS), in addition to the shortage of supplies and people in waiting list for a space in the sanatoriums, the Tungurahua Production Chambers Consortium announced a crusade to provide support especially to the first health home.

Diego Mosquera, president of the consortium, said that the Interinstitutional Health Emergency Committee was formed in order to join efforts that make it possible to help face the needs experienced by the pandemic.

Mosquera recalled that the HRDA, with the support of other institutions, enabled a biomolecular laboratory to carry out PCR tests in less time, but that at the moment there are difficulties in having sufficient reagents, according to the representatives of the sanatorium.

He reported that a meeting was held with the hospital directors, who detailed the problems of not having various health supplies, such as reagents, gloves, masks and other materials that they require in the patient intubation process.

For your partGonzalo Callejas, vice president of the consortium, recalled that a month ago the hospital authorities “called out” to them to help them,and that is why the group decided to start the campaign to deliver various supplies. In the case of reagents, which allow false positives to be diagnosed through PCR tests and free up spaces required by other patients in the hospital.

With the contributions obtained immediately, the acquisitions of the most urgent implements will be made, Callejas added, ensuring that doctors are living moments of desperation given the current health situation.

For that reason, he said they cannot sit back and do nothing.

Meanwhile, Mosquera stressed that a technical committee was formed, which will be in charge of managing the type and quantity of inputs required, as well as oversight, aimed at ensuring the transparency of the campaign.

Contributions in products, species or money are collected in the Tungurahua Production Chambers building.

The directors of the Production Chambers asked citizens to comply with the recommendations issued by local and national authorities to avoid further infections of COVID-19, since not only the offender is at risk but also his family and the rest of the citizens. .

During the press conference, Mosquera detailed that there had already been a first donation of 1,000 PCR tests.
