Ecuadorian cocoa, among the best in the world

The definitive phase and award event of the Cocoa of Excellence program will be fulfilled at the end of October or early November of this year.

An Ecuadorian cocoa sample produced in the San José Hacienda, established in km 9.5 of the Babahoyo-Mata de Cocoa (Los Ríos) road, it was located in the group of the 50 best of the best of theCOCOA OF EXCELLENCE PROGRAM, which seeks to recognize the work of cocoa producers and celebrate the quality, diversity of flavors and unique origins.

The commercial sample No. CEEC 217, Mata de Cocoa, variety CCN-51 of the city of Babahoyo, was chosen-along with the other 49-of among 235 samples of cocoa grains sent from 53 places, such as Brazil, Australia, China, Colombia, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Cameroon, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, among others.

"It is an achievement not of an individual producer but of the entire cocoa cluster that has been developing the best processes to guarantee the quality of a highly productive clone such as the CCN-51 ″, said Jorge Marún, general manager of Finance San José, in a bulletin.

The definitive phase and award event of the Cocoa of Excellence program will be fulfilled at the end of October or early November of this year. These 50 samples will go through the process to obtain black chocolates that will later be tempered, molded and packaged in France. Finally, black chocolate samples will be blinded by a panel of professionals.

The National Association of Exporters. of cocoa and industrialized of Ecuador (anecacao), details that the CCN-51 clonal cocoa, which means Castro Naranjal collection, emerged in 1965, after several investigations carried out by the agronomist Ambateño Homero Castro Zurita.

The CCN-51 variety is tolerant of diseases, of high productivity and quality; In addition, this represents 72% of Ecuadorian exports of cocoa. The other 28% corresponds to the exports of national cocoa.
