Avianca Ecuador requests permission to fly the Guayaquil-New York route and will go locally to Cuenca

New destinations that plan the airline that competes in the local market.

New York is one of the destinations preferred by Ecuadorians and one of those who record a passenger traffic recovery in the middle of this pandemic.

Two airlines currently fly from Guayaquil to the city of skyscrapers: Jetblue and Eastern, which this month increased their weekly frequencies.

But a new competitor is ready to enter that market: Avianca Ecuador. The airline has requested the National Aviation Council for permission to fly the Guayaquil-New York-Guayaquil route.

The application was entered weeks ago and specifies that it aspires to have up to seven weekly frequencies on this route.

For that new service, Avianca Ecuador has communicated to the Council that intends to use A318, A319, A320, A321 and A330.

A321 aircraft will be acquired through the systemdry lease(A periods for periods), while the rest of the teams would come via exchange with Avianca Colombia.

If the permit for Avianca is approved, this destination will add an important number of available seats, as Jetblue has two daily flights to New York in aircraft with capacity for 200 chairs and Eastern flours five times a week in 250 -seat airplanes.

That, not to mention that Latam Ecuador has a current permit for the Guayaquil-New York-Guayaquil route, but those flights were suspended from the pandemic.

Weeks ago, David Alemán, director of Avianca for Central America and South America, told this newspaper that they were evaluating opportunities to develop new destinations, especially point -to -point routes, without the need to go through a hub of connection of Colombia or El Salvador.

Last June, Pedro Palacios, mayor of Cuenca, met with David Alemán, executive of Avianca, to deal with flights to Cuenca. Courtesy

Locally, Avianca Ecuador also plans to operate the Quito-Cuenca route, a destination that adds to its domestic operations.

German held a meeting with the mayor of Cuenca last June in which air connectivity for the city was addressed.

This Thursday, the Ministry of Transportation and the airline have planned to give the details of that route, which is currently covered by Aeroregional and Latam Ecuador. Tame flew to that city before entering a liquidation process.

Cuenca is not a simple market, as several airlines have tried to sustain their operations over time, but sometimes they have suspended them due to passenger traffic.
