Telefónica grows in Latin America and sees in Ecuador a point of opportunities due to digitization

President Guillermo Lasso and the company's CEO met over the weekend.

The Spanish company Telefónica indicated that the third quarter of this 2021 culminated with an increase of 11.6% in Latin America compared to the same period of 2020.

The firm has 109 million accesses in this region, with mobile accesses being its main business, although it also provides broadband and payment TV services. He also hopes to expand his operation with the deployment of infracos, a division of infrastructure for fiber, Chile and Colombia deployments.

Just the company's CEO worldwide, José María Álvarez-Pallete, met last weekend with Ecuadorian president Guillermo Lasso.

Álvarez-Pallete said that he sees with optimism the beginning of negotiations to renew the concession with the Ecuadorian State, from 2023. As well as his willingness to work in the country's digitalization, which can bring benefits to more citizens.

According to the company, the Telecommunications Minister and the Information Society, Vianna Manino; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauricio Montalvo; the itinerant ambassador, Juan Carlos Holguín; as well as Laura Abasolo, Financial Director of Telefónica and responsible for the Latin American operation; and Alfonso Gómez, CEO of Telefónica Hispam.

After the meeting, Maino commented on Twitter that the transnational wants to strengthen its presence in the country, especially in rural areas.

Telefónica has been in Ecuador for 17 years and claims to have invested more than 2.6 billion dollars at that time.

Meanwhile, Lasso expressed his desire to continue promoting a climate of trust so that large companies look at Ecuador as a point to invest, especially in technology and telecommunications.

Telefónica Hispanoamérica operates in Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina.
