The designation is due to the behavior in the movement of containers during 2021, which grew by 3.4%.
Ecuador, at the port level, ranks seventh out of 28 countries in the region for its behavior in container movement during 2021.
This according to data issued in thePort report 2021bythe Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), shared byMinistry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP).
In that period, the country's ports, through their public and private port terminals, closed the year with a slight increase of 3.4%, compared to 1.6% in 2020.
Likewise, ECLAC clarifies in its report that "the first signs of recovery in international maritime transport via containers in Latin America and the Caribbean" place thePort of Guayaquil(that is, all terminals) in seventh place, out of a total of 102 ports in the region, registering a variation of 4.4% compared to the years 2020 and 2021 in terms of TEU movement.
More than 85% of the country's non-oil export cargo is moved through the Port of Guayaquil (public and private terminals) and transported to different markets around the world, such as China, Japan, Peru, Chile, India, Argentina, the United States. United, among others. Its main products are bananas, shrimp, wood, pineapple, canned tuna, minerals, cocoa and others.
Regarding imports, the main products that enter the country through the Main Port are electronic equipment, metals, vehicle parts, chemicals, various merchandise, among others.
