In 2021 around 16,000 tons were lagging behind in the country.
Ecuador expects for this year to export15,000 tons (t)more cocoa and reach shipments by375.984t to international markets.
This was detailed by theNational Association of Cocoa and Industrialized Exporters of Ecuador (Anecacao), through a summary of the situation of the sector, which exported 360,714 tons in 2021, less than in 2020 when it exported 360,800 t.
Anecacao adds approximately 80 % of cocoa exporters in Ecuador, its production chain has about 600,000 hectares whose development almost 400,000 families depend directly.
The guild also highlighted currency growth. Between January and December 2021, exports amounted to $ 950 million,$ 43 millionMore than in the previous period, which represents a growth of 4.71 %.
However, despite growth figures, the sector also felt the external impact of the global container logistics crisis.
“While it is true that by 2021 it was expected to overcome the export volume of Ecuadorian cocoa, the global logistics crisis of international containers caused that, in these months, around16.000 tThey will lag behind in the country in this way affecting the exports of the year, ”said the guild, which, despite the crisis, provides for an increase in exports for this year.
It was added that, internally, companies are expected to respond positively to this problem and in turn take actions to maintain their efforts to pay a fair price to the producer to the extent that the business will be profitable.
