The benefit of the state project lies in the 60% subsidy of the value of the policy.
In almost four years, from 2017 to date, 377,040.84 hectares have been secured, owned by 111,537 producers. This was done through the State Agroseguro project, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) reported.
This translates into $ 12 million that the regime has allocated farmers and ranchers, at the national level, who decided to ensure their crops and cattle, which means that they have a policy that supports the investment (labor, supplies, seed).
How does Agroseguro work? César Bowen, project manager, explained that it is an incentive of 60% of the value of the policy, as a measure of support for producers.
Bowen indicated that insured crops correspond to cotton, rice, banana, cocoa, coffee, sugar cane, barley, red onion, beans, bean, hard corn, soft corn, potato, banana, quinoa, soy, tree tomato, wheat.
Pilar Carranza, farmer in the province of Los Ríos, was part of the producers who secured their crops through the state project. She presented the benefits of the policy during a virtual accountability that took place last May 3.
"It is a financial tool that has protected our crops and that has allowed us to recover costs," Carranza said.
"From 2017 to date, throughout the country, more than $ 20 million has been compensated, allowing producers to continue their work in the field," said the official, who added that through the project the assurance of cattle is also encouraged, although this segment has been in force since August 2020.
Bowen revealed that in this case, for the 60%subsidy, it gives a total of $ 55,965.63 to date.
"Until now we have 2,835 insured animals, owned by 418 producers who decided to protect their livestock herd above death with a validity of 365 days," said the agroseguro manager, who mentioned that constant training is made with the aim of creating an insurance culture and that this is maintained in time to precaution of the investment of the agricultural sector.
Regarding the robbery coverage in livestock insurance, he mentioned that it is now the turn of the producers, who formalize using the mobilization guide and identifying their cattle herd.
"In the medium term, the MAG will qualify a satellite monitoring operator for cattle and we can cover the theft of the animal through this service," he said.
