Latam will eliminate single-use plastics on its flights before 2023

As part of its strategy, the airline has set out to be a neutral carbon at 2050

Latam will eliminate single -use plastics on their flights before 2023 as part of its new sustainability strategy. The plan was presented on Wednesday in the markets in which it operates.

The airline that has operations in Ecuador indicated that it will expand the recycling program on board on all the domestic routes of the group and will transform all the airline halls into 100% sustainable.

Roberto Alvo, CEO of Latam Airlines Group, indicated that to eliminate single -use plastics are analyzing non -plastic and biodegradable plastics.

"Soon you will see that the packaging where the blankets and pillows are going to be replaced with biodegradable bags and in two more years we hope to eliminate the plastics of a single use," said Alvo.

As part of its strategy, the airline has set out to be a neutral carbon at 2050, zero residue to spillage to 2027 and protect iconic ecosystems in South America.

The Nature Conservancy will collaborate with Latam to identify conservation projects, protecting ecosystems such as the Amazon, the Chaco, the Llanos del Orinoco, the Atlantic Forest and the Closed, among others.

Alvo indicated that more than working with TNC will approach communities and governments to identify the most necessary projects. In that list of priorities, we will try to identify needs in the Galapagos Islands. To that destination Latam has taken, at no cost, vaccines against COVID-19 on its solidarity plane.

In addition, the group will promote a program that will allow passengers, corporate and load customers to compensate the CO2 emissions associated with their trips. At the same time, it will compensate for the same amount of CO2 emissions as customers under the 1+1 program.
