Even Galapagos arrived 15,585 tourists in the first quarter of 2021.
The Galapagos Governing Council ratified on Tuesday afternoon that the negative RT-PCR test continues to be a mandatory requirement to enter its territory.
This requirement rules for national and foreign tourists since the age of 18. The negative test must be maximum 96 hours.
Until last June 6, the archipelago accumulated 2,195 cases of COVID-19. Most cases were on Santa Cruz Island.
"The protocols approved by the Provincial Emergency Operations Committee for the entrance to Galapagos remain in force until they are updated or repealed," said the Galapagos Governing Council
This instance said that the request for homologation of tourist entry requirements to Ecuador Continental and Galapagos carried out by the Ministry of Tourism will once govern the health authority will update the guidelines.
The idea of the Ministry of Tourism is that the same requirements of the continental Ecuador (complete vaccination scheme against COVID-19, a negative result of the PCR test or negative antigen test) are also aligned for the islands.
That state portfolio stated that June is the month of economic reactivation for Galapagos, once its entire population was vaccinated.
Even Galapagos arrived 15,585 tourists in the first quarter of 2021, 73.12% less than in the same period of 2020 when 58,000 arrived. Most of those who have traveled this year have been Ecuadorians.
Currently, Latam and Avianca have frequencies to Baltra and San Cristóbal. Aeroregional announced that it will begin operations to that destination from June 21.
