The company, of Mexican origin, celebrated 75 years of creation and 26 years of presence in Ecuador, its strategic center for the production of stoves
Since in 1946, whenStay MabardiandFrancisco BerrondoThey founded a company in Mexico that would bear the first syllables of their last names,Weird, 75 years have passed and an expansion process has led the brand to be present in72 countries, with a production of 10 million units of household appliances per year.
One of these countries is Ecuador, where the brand arrived 26 years ago, in 1995, with the acquisition ofDurexand made Guayaquil, where its plant works at kilometer 14 of the road to Daule, its strategic kitchen production center, not only to supply the domestic market, but for all of Latin America, the Caribbean and Central America, he recalled.Jaime Antonio Seminario, Manager of Value Chain and Institutional Relations of Mabe Ecuador.
At the Guayaquil plant, around3,000 kitchens daily, maintained Seminario, who pointed out that the80 %of the production is intended for export to the aforementioned markets.
Added to this are eventual shipments to Dubai, Asia and Europe, which together helped the company maintain itself in times of pandemic, when the Guayaquil plant suspended its operations for two months, from mid-March 2020 until May when they resumed operation. production without losing jobs.
“(2020) is a year in which we relatively came out very decent at the production level. The blow of the year 2019 on 2020 was very little, leveraged a lot on exports. From Ecuador we export to more or less12 countriesfrom Latin America and some countries in Asia and Africa that we manage through the corporate," said Seminario, who added that sales in the local market also rose, which meant that 2020 closed with450,000 kitchens manufactured.
These recovery rates continued and this year show that from January to July the production of the plant reached650,000 kitchens, largely due to a strong export project to Mexico, and they expect to close 2021 with850.000.
With these indicators, Seminario was optimistic regarding the expectations, not only of the company, but of the business sector in general, as he assured that conditions could improve and companies could become more competitive and increase their exports if the proposed reforms crystallize. by the Government on labor and tax issues, among others.
Regarding tariffs, Seminario indicated that through the Chamber of Industries of Guayaquil, of which Mabe is a member, a new list is prepared, together with the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, to reduce tariffs on materials premiums and capital goods, after the first reduction that took place last August with 667 subheadings.
"Mabe has been here for 26 years and we are not going to leave here, our shareholders are very happy with what is being done in Ecuador," said the manager, who said that they are even attentive to the consolidation of a trade agreement with Mexico.
Regarding this possible agreement, which would also give Ecuador the possibility of joining the Pacific Alliance, Seminario made a parenthesis to clarify that Mabe Ecuador belongs to a union of local producers and supports national production. "It is not that Mabe, because it is a Mexican company and wants to sign a free trade agreement with Mexico, we have been terrified that everything is released, we are also taking care of national production and that they give us the opportunity to compete," he said.
The goal is to reach 2050 with zero gas emissions. For this, three aspects are sought to be strengthened: the continuous improvement of social, economic and environmental performance; the promotion of innovation to continue making efficient use of material and environmental resources; and the development of white line solutions sensitive to future needs.
In this sense, there are already several advances in its products, such as the R600 refrigeration system, an environmentally friendly gas, which the brand introduced since 2019 and was the first to market it in the country, which currently, due to regulations , it is already a mandatory requirement for all other manufacturers.
Also this year, Mabe included a new washing cycle called sanitization in its washing machines, which eliminates the bacteria that cause viruses. This was added, according to Seminario, due to the health emergency caused by COVID-19.
In addition, other technologies such ashome energy saver, which allows up to 58% energy savings in refrigerators, andaqua saver green, in washing machines, which is equivalent to washing one year with this system, saving the water that a person would drink for 40 years.
