Ecuador launches campaign to promote shrimp in the Chinese market

The Embassy of Ecuador in China and the National Chamber of Aquaculture of Ecuador promote the Camarón de Ecuador promotion campaign.

In order to show the nutritional advantages and a renewed image of Ecuadorian shrimp, the Embassy of Ecuador in China together with the National Chamber of Aquaculture of Ecuador (CNA) announced the launch ofthe Ecuadorian Shrimp promotion campaign.

The initiative seeks to expose Chinese distributors and consumers to all the nutritional contribution, flavor and the strict production process behind the crustacean, says a statement issued by the CNA.

In the first phase of the campaign, advertising will be carried out on multiple platforms and media. Additionally, they will be presentedthe advantages of Ecuadorian shrimp to Chinese consumers, food industry professionals and the media.In addition, there will be cooperation with renowned chefs, who will represent the main cooking styles in China using shrimp from Ecuador as the main product.

Carlos Larrea, Ecuadorian ambassador to China,He pointed out that Ecuadorian shrimp is recognized worldwide for its characteristicspremium.“The most important thing is that our shrimp producers and exporters are committed to excellence, they highly value the quality and safety of the products. There are strict controls carried out at every step of the production process to ensure this. We want to demonstrate to our Chinese consumers that they can be sure that shrimp from Ecuador is farmed in the best way,” said Larrea.

China has become the main destination for Ecuadorian crustaceans. In fact, this country alone concentrated 46% of total exports in 2021, which meant revenues of $2,296 million.

The CNA explained that The Ecuadorian shrimp production system guarantees the natural conditions that this endemic species needs to develop superior quality., but also "the dedication of the producers and exporters, who for more than half a century have dedicated themselves to this sector that today generates almost 200,000 jobs in Ecuador."

From larval production to crop management, harvesting, processing and transportation, Ecuadorian entrepreneurs strive to achieve excellence in every link of the value chain.

José Antonio Camposano, president of the shrimp export union, highlighted that the experience gained and the commitment of the industry, which for more than 50 years has worked on the continuous improvement and efficiency of shrimp farming and processing techniques, is what has allowed it to grow sustainably and reach the most demanding markets in the world.

“With the launch of this campaign we want to reaffirm to our customers in China that, when they purchase a shrimp from Ecuador, they can trust that they are getting a product of superior quality and the most sustainable on the market,” said Camposano.
