The season began last September and ended the second week of January this year.
Ecuador exported around 15,342,766 boxes of mango during the 2021 season, which began the first week of September 2021 and ended in the second week of January this year.
This, as reported this Thursday by the Phyto and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad), which noted that varieties such as Tommy Atkins, Haden, Kent, Keith, Ataulfo, Nan Doc May, Francique and Naomi were exported, and that the United States is the most important market, followed by Colombia.
The institution assured that there are currently 95 production sites registered for export, which represent 5,858.52 hectares, distributed as follows: 91.35% in Guayas, 6.85% in Los Ríos, 1.2% in El Oro and 0.6% in Saint Helena.
These mango plantations have a surveillance system to monitor fruit flies, an essential requirement for export to the main international markets. In addition, this monitoring, which is developed jointly between Agrocalidad and the Mango Foundation of Ecuador (FME), has been recognized by international phytosanitary organizations from the US, Mexico and Chile during their visits to the country.
Additionally, the Agency reported that it had a team of 60 trained technicians to attend to the fruit packing plants and certify the processes of fruit reception, packaging, certification, hydrothermal treatment and container dispatch.
