The XLIX Meeting of the Andean Council of Extended Foreign Ministers will be at 10.00 in Quito and will have face -to -face and virtual participations.
Ecuador will present its partners of the Andean Community (CAN) on Friday the general lines of its work plan for the postpania era and on how to bet on regional scale development, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Mauricio Montalvo told Efe.
It will do so at a meeting of the Expanded Council of Foreign Ministers with those of Foreign Trade, in a semi -crescent meeting in which Ecuador acts as a host for being the country that holds the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Regional Integration Agency.
"The central axis is going to be the postpania relationship, lines of action that allow member countries to recover from the pandemic, which has even affected the migratory phenomenon," said the chancellor.
Common issues that "must be addressed", and that will contemplate the "relaunch in terms of measures aimed at job creation, a strong commitment to small and medium enterprises, and strengthen connectivity in the region, which is now so necessary."
The XLIX Meeting of the Andean Council of Extended Foreign Relations will take place from 10.00 local time (15.00 GMT) and will serve as a framework for the presentation of the 2021-2022 Work Plan.
The appointment will be attended by the Vice President and Foreign Minister of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramírez and the Secretary General of the Andean Community, Jorge Pedraza.
Virtual will participate in the foreign ministers of Peru, Oscar Maurtua, and Bolivia, Rogelio Mayta, as well as the trade ministers of these countries.
Priority areas
Ecuador's work at the head of the agency, which recently turned 52, will focus on three priority areas:Postpandemic economic and social reactivation, external relationship of the mechanism and promotion of the population's closeness to the Andean community.
Montalvo explained that the presidency of his country "will bet on the relaunch of the CAN", something that "has been done" but that "Ecuador, such as President Guillermo Lasso has mentioned, hopes to continue, strengthen and consolidate this space."
The CAN, which brings together Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, "has managed to develop an interesting institutionality. Not with the scope of the European case, but unlike other mechanisms in the region, a permanent secretary, a fixed headquarters, an instances such as the Court of Justice, a Parliament, a University and Cooperation Mechanisms."
"Bad or well, he remains, with all the criticism, in spite of everything he is still in force and with the eagerness of the Member States to be able to give him greater vitality," said the chancellor.
At the meeting, the virtual participation of the General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, who will address cooperation in scientific matters that the body will offer to the countries of the Andean region in the fight against Fusarium, plague that attacks banana plants will be planned.
For his part, the President of the Court of Justice of the Andean Community, Gustavo García Brito, will present before the Council Extended the situation and perspectives of this organ of the Andean Integration System (SAI).
