With $ 2,222 million and 13% growth, shrimp leads non-oil exports in the first half of the year

As happened in theFirst quarterof the year, when the bananas fell-2.14 %, the shipments of the fruit abroad again suffered a downturn at the end of the first half of the year, causing the sales of the first semester to descend-10 %when exporting$ 1,804 million. Meanwhile, the shrimp, with$ 2,222 millionIn shipments, the13 %compared to the January-June period of 2020.

In the non -traditional field, the fish canned item presented a growth of 14 %; while, on the other hand, the wood and its elaborate decreased at -10 % during the same analysis period.

According to Fedexpor's analysis, from January to June, the first ten export products, mainly composed of food supply products, added more than $ 6,200 million In foreign sales. The United States, Asia and Europe are markets where most Ecuadorian exports consumers are located.

Regarding the total trade balance, in this period it registered a favorable balance of $558 million, resulting from a trade surplus of $655 million in the oil balance and a deficit of $97 million in the non-oil balance. It continues to be the first destination for the non -oil offer of Ecuador, being the shrimp ($ 600 million), banana ($ 228 million) and flowers ($ 209 million) the main products that reach that market.

In this first semester, non -oil exports to the North American country grew by 20 %. The European Union, as a second commercial destination, registered an increase of 15 % in the same period. Instead, non -oil shipments to China decreased by -19 %.

Meanwhile, with regard to imports, according to Fedexpor, in the first six months of 2021, non -oil imports increased by 24 %, mainly due to an increase in the importation of raw materials of 27 %, and consumer goods by 23 %.

According to information fromMinistry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, the main imported raw materials are manufactures in metals with $ 319 million and a 43 % growth in relation to the same period of 2020.

They are followed by polymers with $ 316 million, although with greater growth: 67 %. Soy oil residues, with $ 298 million (29 %), are located in third position.

As for consumer goods, medicines lead these imports with $ 381 million and a 12 %growth, light vehicles follow with $ 356 million (73 %) and appliances with $ 175 million (64 %).

The behavior of exports and imports resulted in the total commercial balance presenting a surplus for Ecuador of $ 1,796 million. In the oil field there is a surplus of $ 2,320 million; On the contrary, in non -oil trade there is an unfavorable result of $ 524 million.
