International air traffic increased 114.6% in Ecuador, behind Peru and Colombia, but it is first in cargo traffic recovery

The General Secretariat of the Andean Community presented the figures for the departures and arrivals of passengers from all over the world to these destinations.

International air passenger traffic in the countries of the Andean Community: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru grew by 146.7%, going from 723,000 passengers in February 2021 to 1,784,000 passengers in the same month of 2022, according to the general secretary of the CAN, Jorge Hernando Pedraza.

This organization highlights that this traffic, departures and arrivals of passengers from all over the world to the Andean countries, increased in Peru 313.9%, in Colombia 116.5%, in Ecuador 114.6% and in Bolivia 92.2%.

In the second month of 2022, the occupancy rate was 74.7% in this area, since according to the member countries, Peru registered the highest occupancy rate with 82.7%, followed by Bolivia with 81.8%, Colombia with 72.8% and Ecuador with 66.9% (there were 237,000 passengers in February), which on the other hand is first in the reactivation of cargo traffic.

The total cargo and mail mobilized in the Andean Community in January 2022 was 83,284 tons, which is a decrease of 26% compared to the same month of the previous year due to the decrease in all its countries, except Ecuador. In the first month of 2022, Colombia's cargo and mail traffic decreased by 32.1%; in Bolivia it was reduced by 11.2%; in Peru it decreased 0.3%. Meanwhile, cargo and mail moved in Ecuador increased 22.5% (1,961 tons moved).

In February 2022, air cargo and mail traffic moved in the Andean Community decreased 21.1% compared to February 2021, as a result of lower cargo and mail moved by Colombia (-28.6%) and Bolivia (- 12.6%). However, Ecuador registered an increase of 38.5% (2,204 tons moved) and Peru of 17.6%.

According to the statistical report prepared by the General Secretariat of the CAN on air traffic in the Andean Community, presented by the head of the organization, intra-community flights in February 2022 also presented an increase of 76.2% compared to February 2022. previous year.

“The reactivation of international and intra-community air traffic shows that the Andean region is recovering socially and economically after two years of an unprecedented pandemic that affected this sector and the tourism sector,” highlighted the head of the organization.
