The Sea Port of Puerto Bolívar, in the province of El Oro, received this Monday, April 25, what is so far the largest ship that has entered that port terminal.

The large capacity of the ship will allow export1,343 containers with bananas, 462 were loaded from El Oro and 881 from Guayas and will be sent to different destinations worldwide.
To date, the largest ship that has arrived at an Ecuadorian port is the MSC Aliya, from the same shipping line, which exceeds 366 meters in length and has the Malaysian flag; and that docked at the Guayaquil Sea Port operated by Contecon.
Lino Honores Jaramillo, district director of the Phyto and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad)in El Oro, indicated that this will benefit banana exports internationally, and is at the same time an indicator that new markets are opening for Ecuadorian bananas.
He also stressed that as representatives of Agrocalidad they have carried out an exhaustive control, which guarantees that the phytosanitary requirements of the countries where this fruit will arrive are met.
Meanwhile, Kléber Franco, district director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), stated that El Oro is one of the largest banana producers in the country and in the world, which is why the institution places special emphasis on observing the production processes. cargo to take the fruit to other destinations.
Alfredo Jurado, manager of Yilport,operator of the port terminal of Puerto Bolívar, assured that the MSC Maxime ship will not be the last with these characteristics to arrive at this port, in which the firm has invested more than$104 millionin infrastructure works and the acquisition of state-of-the-art port equipment, which justifies the reception of the ship and its short time in the port.
In January 2022, this port terminal received 11 RTG yard cranes. Their investment was approximately $14 million. To date, this port facility has 4 mobile cranes, 2 Ship To Shore (STS) container cranes and 17 RTG cranes.
