Import of cars was exceeded in the port of Manta in six months of 2022, after low income between 2020 and 2021

The largest export products from Manta on container ships are 86% of various canned goods, as well as canned tuna, oils and shrimp.

The loading or entry of vehicles through the port of Manta was one of the three import items that generated the greatest growth in this Manabi port terminal in the first half of this year, this after presenting low income between 2020 and 2021 due to restrictions. worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wheat with 48% of the total is the containerized cargo that holds the first place in income through the port of Manta, followed by frozen tuna with 18%, automobiles and machinery 16% and vegetable oils 13%, among others.

The wheat comes from Canada and the United States; frozen tuna from international waters, vegetable oils from Peru; and automobiles, a high percentage are of Chinese origin.

Precisely, the cargo of car container ships arriving in Manta between January and June of this year generates an increase in relation to the same period in 2020 and 2021.

International cargo in the first half of 2022 presents an increase of 11.51% compared to the same period in 2021. This increase is evident in all business lines, such as general cargo, which corresponds to the loading of tankers with an increase of 56%, mobilizing 45,418 units of vehicles and machinery.

According to statistics from the Manta Port Authority (APM), the companies that imported the most vehicles through the Manta port were General Motors Ecuador (Chevrolet) with 7,102 vehicles, followed by Aekía S. A. (Kia) with 5,630 units, in third place is the automotive company Distrivehic (Maresa) with 5,001 automobiles.

Other companies that have entered vehicles into Ecuador through the port of Manta are Ambacar S. A. (3,899 units), Automekano Compañía Limitada (3,682), Comercial Carlos Roldán S. A., JAC vans and trucks (3,112), among others.

The shipping lines that enter the most vehicles through the port of Manta are Hyundai Glovis C. O. with 25,534 cars, followed by Eukor Car Carriers with 14,391 vehicles. Between these two automobile transportation companies, 88% of the total of 45,418 cars that entered through the Manabi port during the first half of 2022 entered through Manta.

On the other hand, the products most exported from Manta on container ships are various canned goods with 86%, canned tuna represents 7%, other merchandise, oils and shrimp 7%. These products are destined for Spain, England, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany and others.

An additional data provided by the APM was that in the first half of 2022, a total of 361 international and national flag vessels moved through the international terminal, which represents an increase of 12% in relation to the first half of 2021.

Of those 361 ships that arrived in Manta between January and June of this year, 256 ships are international flagged, representing an increase of 19% compared to the same period of the previous year.
