Ecuador set a record in April by exporting $ 404.4 million in shrimp and is already the second supplier to the United States

The figures surpass those of last March with almost $80 million and 30 million pounds more. And as of April 2020 with 40 million pounds and $ 87 million.

Ecuador once again set a shrimp export record with more than167′273,101 pounds, what represents$ 404′490.954, last April, according to figures from theNational Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA).

Last March, 137 million pounds of the crustacean were exported for $325.9 million.

The current figures also exceed those of April 2020 when Ecuador exported 127 million pounds for $317.4 million, according to figures from the union.

The figures were highlighted by the Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries,Ivan Ontaneda.

"Good news! In April we again broke a record in exports of our shrimp to the world. This is the result of the hard work of a committed and resilient industry. We continue to open markets thanks to the excellence and traceability of the best shrimp in the world”, said the minister.

Meanwhile, the CNA highlighted that Ecuador became thesecond largest supplier of shrimp to the United States.

This, after during the first quarter of this year Ecuador exported84′205.472 pounds, which generated foreign exchange for the country$ 208′384.568.

Ontaneda indicated that there is an increase of almost 30% of Ecuadorian shrimp imported during this 2021, compared to the same period last year. Ecuador won the seat to Indonesia that was in second place for shrimp imports to the US.
