The investment contract for the wind project with the Spanish company was signed on April 30, in Loja. President Guillermo Lasso was an honorary witness.
At the event, Lasso expressed: “This is extraordinary. This is the Ecuador of the Encounter that we want, where man meets nature, puts imagination and creativity into play through the responsible use of natural resources.” For this reason, he reaffirmed that, with projects like this, Ecuador is moving firmly towards the ecological transition.
He highlighted that Villonaco III will be the first project in the electricity sector based on a 25-year concession contract to produce electricity from a natural, inexhaustible and clean resource, such as wind.
“This is a reflection of the government's work. Our Government is eleven months old and they ask us what we have done. In addition to vaccinating 87% of the Ecuadorian population, saving lives, reactivating education and in-person work, we now symbolically subscribe to this clean energy project,” he expressed.
The wind turbines that will be used in the project are of the latest technology, with greater power per generation unit, which means lower environmental impacts in the area, indicated the Minister of Energy and Mines, Xavier Vera.
The official indicated that the construction of the Villonaco III wind project is scheduled for the third quarter of 2022. It will cover 100% of the demand of Loja, Zamora Chinchipe and the Gualaquiza canton, of Morona Santiago.
