Amazon challenges the large supermarkets in Spain with Amazon Fresh

The best-known supermarket chains in Spain have turned their attention to Amazon's new strategy in that country, where it has now opened its Amazon Fresh service to deliver food.

In this way, the technology giant is trying to achieve a greater market share in fresh and frozen foods, taking advantage of the changes in the way of consumption that the pandemic has caused.

With Amazon Fresh, a customer can order everything from fish to vegetables and dairy products to be delivered to their home with a surcharge, which is canceled if the order is more than 50 euros ($60), on the same day.

According to Spanish media, purchases of groceriesonlineThey have skyrocketed due to the dynamics forced by the pandemic to reduce contact. Furthermore, experts mention that this form of purchasing, in one of the sectors in which electronic commerce was not so advanced prior to the pandemic, will continue to be present and perhaps growing.

For now, in Spain only those who have a Prime account and live in Madrid and several surrounding towns can use Amazon Fresh, but it is also a warning for supermarkets.

Camille Bur, director of Amazon Fresh Spain, told the economy portalFiveDays-dailyThe Country– that the company has the ambition to extend this service to other large cities in the country. The second will be Barcelona -in a few weeks-.

In addition to the United States and Spain, there is also Amazon Fresh in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Japan. (YO)
